The Yellow Car

The Yellow Car was an automotive story[1] developed by Pixar artist Jørgen Klubien, during the production of the studio's second feature film, A Bug's Life (1995). Inspired by an affinity for the electric car, first engineered in the 1980s in his home country of Denmark.[2] With a plot resembling Hans Christian Anderson's The Ugly Ducking, the titular yellow car (later adapted into Luigi) finds himself rejected by his gas-fueled society. According to The Art of Cars, The Yellow Car was scrapped due to its "slim" plotline falling short of a feature film runtime; It however laid the groundwork for future development, introducing a "small-town setting" and the characters of Fillmore and Sarge.[2]
The next stage of the project (which would eventually become Cars) was titled American Car.
